Education
Education encompasses everything that CCB does, from Climate Affairs programs to workshops to publications. This cross-cutting theme can be examined by looking at the other sections of this website.
Two areas of education that CCB has begun to develop are e-learning and wireless learning. One project is called "Spare Time University," or STU. STU is a notion to help educate people about today's problems and proposed solutions related to climate, water, and weather.
Many people are too busy or lack the opportunity to take courses in school, whether it is at the high school or university level. CCB is developing ways to bring STU to those who want to participate. Radios, cellphones, and newspapers are media that provide desired information to the people who work all day and want to use their spare time constructively and efficiently.
Usable information is a top priority of a Spare Time University: new agricultural methods, new fishing techniques, different ways to till the soil, to terrace the hilly landscape, etc.
Michael Glantz wrote about the STU notion and published it in the World Meteorological Organization's Bulletin (April 2007, "How about a spare-time university?" Information about progress on the development of STU is available from CCB. Click here to contact us with your questions.
Michael (Mickey) Glantz has been educating the public for many years now, first with a biweekly column in the local newspaper, the Daily Camera, and then moving to a blog. His "Fragilecologies" blog is a public service for those in search of information on topics related to climate-society-environment interactions. This site is not affiliated with CCB.
