On Thursday, ICID 2010 convened in thematic panel sessions and roundtables organized around the four sub-themes of the conference: climate information; climate and sustainable development; climate governance, representation, rights, equity and justice; and climate policy processes. During the morning and evening, poster sessions were presented.

2nd International Conference: Climate, Sustainability and Development in Semi-arid Regions
6 August 2010

CCB contribution to ICID18 Conference (2nd International Conference: Climate, Sustainability and Development in Semi-arid Regions) will take place in Forteleza (Northeast Brazil) 16-20 August 2010. The panel members will focus on the question “Lessons learned about lessons learned about climate-related hazards and disasters.” Paricipants to the panel come from different countries and academic disciplines to share their perspectives on whether lessons are only identified but not really “learned” (effectively applied).

  The Conference is mainly focused on the multidisciplinary capacity building of graduate students of various disciplines through the sharing of knowledge and experience by experts and participants on Climate Affairs, from climate-related science to impacts to policy & economics to ethics & equity.

Dr. Qian Ye and Dr. Tsegay Wolde-Geogies visited Ethiopia to explore the idea of developing an All African Center for Climate Change and Society.(July 12-17)

The All African Climate Center was initiated by Dr. Glantz in 2007 and Dr. Ye proposed the idea to Chinese Ministry of Sciences and Technology in 2009 as part of China-Africa cooperation in global climate change. In this trip, Dr. Ye and Dr. Tsegay helped a Chinese delegation which sponsored by Chinese Ministry of Sciences and Technology arrange several meetings to meet key decision makers in African Union and Ethiopia government.

A following workshop for high level Chinese and African officials has
been proposed in this October and CCB will play a role of consulting and organizing this workshop.

A website about the 1st Undergraduate Conference has been prepared by a Chinese student from Donghu College, Wuhan University (in Chinese). It is the second site prepared by a student participant about the conference

International Partnership on Combating Desertification, Beijing, China
25 June 2010

Mickey attended the High-level Forum on International Partnership on Combating Desertification, in Beijing, China. The Forum addressed issues such as: Mitigation of DLDD, Policy, Programme development and legislation enforcement, Ecosytem Challenge and Sustainable Land Management, Strategic Plan of Institute of Desertification Studies, and the International Partnersip for Combating Desertification. The 5-day Forum concluded with a field trip to desertification-prone land areas of Eastern Inner Mongolia and visit the countermeasure to mitigate DLDD in the affected region.
